Besides parachutes and jumpsuits, there are a lot of other pieces of smaller equipment that you should look for before you go skydiving at all, let alone swooping. You can find most of this equipment at any good sporting goods store, or at a skydiving store. There are several different ones out there, so just look around and you should find what you need.
The altimeter is your friend
One thing that any skydiver should have is an altimeter. This is your best friend while you’re plummeting toward the earth – since it is the only way that you can tell how far you are from the ground. Your altimeter will also help you to know when you need to release your parachute, or when you’re too close to the ground to do any maneuvering.
Since this piece of swooping equipment is so important, you should make sure that you get a high quality altimeter. This way, you’ll always know what your altitude is when you need to. There are even some altimeters that are audible – which means that they’ll tell you what your altitude is. Some of these altimeters can even record your flight speed.
Helmets and goggles
You will also need helmets and goggles. These are some of the most important pieces of safety equipment while you’re in freefall. After all, the wind is going to be pretty intense while you’re falling.
There are two types of helmets. You can either get a full face or an open face helmet. The open face helmets are just that – they only cover the top and sides of your head. However, if you’d rather have more protection from the wind, then you can get a full face helmet, which will have a clear face protector in front.
You should also make sure that you have all the necessary rigging supplies, and you may even want to purchase extras. That way, if anything breaks, you can replace it, and you won’t have to worry about needing to end your day of swooping early.
Just like anything else, however, make sure that you’re buying high quality rigging supplies so that you’ll be safe while you swoop.
